Dining Room

My next big project for the house is going to be the Dining Room! I need some advice, though, because I can't decide on a color for the walls. I want something bold, but not too dark, and no faux finishes unless it's a texture thing. And no "Country Chic". Here is a panorama of the room. It is pretty big, 11'x14', but is so overpowered by the awful "blue with pink flowers" wallpaper! It has very pretty woodwork along with a built in window seat and hutch w/mirror that Ella likes to use as her "special" work space.

So any one who has ideas of how to bring out the beauty of this room please comment! If I use your suggestions you will win a free weekend at Chez Hardy! This includes room and board plus fine company! No room service, BYOB.

(All the clutter and the rocking chair are only in the room because of my disorganization. They are not intended as permanent fixtures. Any suggestions on how to remove the offending wall paper are welcome)

You don't want any suggestions on removing the clutter? That's my clutter I believe...shovel it into the basement.

You have a big enough basement to shove babblemur's shit into. I suggest greens and greys.

Tofu Salad

4 Servings

Did you know that you can make a delicious vegan alternative to egg or tuna salad from tofu? One of the healthiest changes you can make in your diet is to incorporate soy foods on a regular basis. Soy is rich in protein, iron and compounds called isoflavones, which seem to protect against hormone-driven cancers such as prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women. Soy also helps protect your heart. Tofu - made from curdled soy milk in a process similar to making cheese - is an extremely versatile source of soy, and varies in firmness relative to the amount

of liquid that has been pressed out. Firm tofu works best in this recipe for an appetizing look and taste. I suggest you seek out the freshest possible tofu made from organic soy, and avoid buying the type sold in bulk in big vats, as it can easily be contaminated. Keep your tofu submerged in fresh water in the refrigerator, change the water daily and eat it within a week. This recipe is easy to whip up in a few minutes. Use it as a sandwich filling or as a snack on whole grain crackers. Be sure to choose crackers made without partially hydrogenated oil.

Ingredients:
1 pound firm tofu
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
3 tablespoons chopped celery
3 tablespoons chopped onion
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Dash paprika
Salt to taste
Hot-pepper sauce or salsa (optional)

Instructions:
1. Drain the tofu well and mash it roughly in a bowl.

2. Add the turmeric, mustard, sweet pickle relish, celery, onion, parsley, paprika, and salt to taste.

3. Mix and mash well. Correct seasoning. Add hot-pepper sauce or salsa to taste.

tear out the wall between the kitchen and dining room. then you will have a bright, sunny area and lots of room to entertain all of us, because we are all going to show up the dame weekend. I get the spare bedroom, though, because I made the quilt on the bed.
Don't decide on the paint color until you have the wall demo complete.
don't ever serve me tofu.

See my comments regarding your lovely dining room on the above post. Michael and I do not agree on the whole green/grey thing. It's a dining room, NOT an institution!!! ;)

Ummm...and who wrote that about the tofu salad? It looks good to me. Really good.

Ok, my comment ended up getting disappeared from above.

Since when are green and grey institutional colors? Let's gather more info. Do you want the woodwork to "pop" out or be subtle? What color is the carpet? ceiling? The pics are showing me deep golden tones and brown tones in the trim-is that correct? Do you already own the tablewear and table cloths that will go in the room-if so that's a consideration in the color choice. My first impression without this info is to pick something in the warm color family, but I look forward to narrowing it down.. Gee, I wonder who the anonymous blogger is who doesn't like tofu and made you a quilt. Hmmmm...

Green and Grey:

That's not institution colors, that's a faction of elderly environmentalists!
